AMERICAN IDOL - “Shout To The Lord”
I have to admit I am not really a fan of the “reality” shows that have invaded television in the last 5 years or so. Therefore I was not impressed when I turned on the TV to find “American Idol” still had 10min remaining until my show was to start. I pondered cleaning the house while I waited but soon decided channel surfing seemed far more appealing. As I reached for the remote I heard a familiar tune start to play. I looked up in astonishment to see 8 American Idol contestants singing “Shout To The Lord”
It was the closing song on Idol Gives Back on April 9, 2008, sung by the remaining contestants of American Idol and a gospel choir. Watched by millions worldwide on TV and through the internet it received an incredible response and was the fifth most downloaded song in the US itunes charts that week. Also the release of Hillsong’s new Album “This Is Our God” has debuted at No. 2 in the ARIA charts (14/07/08) It is great to see Christian music making an impact into the secular world! - MattyJ

SMASHING THE GEN Y STEREOTYPES
Sydney Anglican Network
Recent research into the beliefs of Generation Y has completely demolished the idea – popular among some church leaders - that unchurched young people are spiritual seekers who have merely been put off by the institution of the church.
This has been a key assumption behind some church growth strategies. It also undercuts elements within the ‘emerging church’, especially the reaction against the ‘institutional’ mega-churches. The reality is different. The true spiritual map of Generation Y is highly fragmented with a range of both ‘beliefs’ and ‘unbeliefs’ Read more

HEALING SERVICE TESTIMONIES
It was great to be a part of last Sunday evening’s service. The love I felt generated by all those attending was indescribable. It was almost like we were suspended in time and the more we prayed for healing the closer we were being drawn to God as a church family. It would be awesome to have more of these services. - Ida
The following are more experiences from the healing service:
It was such a privilege to be part of the service. I didn't want it to end! When I close my eyes and take myself back there, I see people standing, leaning forward, pressing into God. I see people kneeling, bowing. I also "see" an amazing absence of barriers... people reaching out to each other with such openness and vulnerability... it was like God had suddenly become many, many hearts and hands, reaching out and connecting. There was such an overwhelming sense of love, of release, of freedom. The words to the songs we sang ring in my mind: Chains be broken, lives be healed... Nothing is impossible... Lord you are good and your mercy endures forever... - Lily Dell
A very humbling, peaceful and intimate time. To see many on bended knee was very moving, and showed the wanting of HBC people to "give up" to God their fears/hurts/illness and pray deeply for healing. Personally, I prayed with 2 mature people, which was a privilege. I think we should go further, and have a general prayer of healing for the Church involving the whole congregation at both services. This is also the desire of a member-friend. - Martin Andrews
